TRENDS
Libraries are no longer just warehouses of books.
To stay relevant, public libraries must adopt trends taking place in the information community as well as society as a whole.
They must make themselves easy to use for a busy, hyper-connected public. For example, in the United States we have become a mobile digital community with 77% of all American adults owning a smartphone ("Mobile Fact Sheet", 2018).
Libraries that do not reach out to their patrons via the internet and social media run the risk of becoming obsolete.
WAYFINDING : the ability for library visitors to find their way with no help from library staff.
