PILLAR 3 -- INSTRUCTIVE & ENLIGHTENING EXPERIENCES
Gross (2013)'s third pillar is instructive & enlightening experiences. These experiences are defined as cultural and community center concepts, events and partnerships.

This is an area in which EPL does exceedingly well. EPL positions a community librarian at each branch, with the idea that they will foster relationships and work out in the community 70% of the time.

A sampling of the partnerships EPL enjoys:
EARLY LITERACY TRUCKS

Early literacy trucks (epl2go), in conjunction with Free Footie, bring the library to under-served neighborhoods. In addition to books, electronic gaming, puppet shows and tech help are [see YouTube video to the left] brought out of the library and to the community.
WI-FI HOTSPOTS

In partnership with Rogers Media, EPL implemented a trial program for customers without home internet access. Approximately 116,000 residents experience limited or no access to the Internet. Users can check out the devices for three weeks and receive unlimited data during this period.

In fact, as related by Cassidy Munro, Community Librarian, Abbottsville Branch, EPL is extending it's hotspot lending program by lending Chrome Books along with the hotspots. After all, patrons unable to afford internet access may not have the resources to purchase their own computers (C. Munro, personal communication, April 19, 2018 ).
BOOK BORROWING FOR INMATES

In conjunction with the inmate librarian at the Edmonton Institution for Women, volunteers distribute materials to incarcerated female prisoners. The Edmonton Institution for Women holds 167 inmates at varying levels, from minimum to maximum security.
